Installing Unreal Tournament 3

When you install games and software in Windows Server, viagra some installations will say that server operating systems are not supported and abort the installation. In this tutorial we will modify the .msi file of Unreal Tournament 3 as an example, seek but for other games and software you can do this the same way!

Patching msi packages can be done either manually or automatically.

Manually

1. Create a new folder somewhere on your harddisk, select all files from the UT3 dvd and copy them to the newly created folder.

2. Download the Orca MSI Editor from Rapidshare or 4Shared, and install the tool.

3. Right click on the Unreal Tournament 3.msi setup file in the folder you copied the UT3 dvd files to, and click Edit with Orca.

4. In the Orca MSI Editor click the table LaunchCondition on the left, next right click the condition that was preventing us from installing UT3 and click Drop Row. Click OK when asked if you want to continue.

5. Now save the change by clicking Save in the File menu. You can close the Orca MSI Editor now.

6. Launch the Installation of Unreal Tournament 3 by double clicking SetupUT3.exe from the installation folder of UT3 on your harddisk.

7. Play UT3!

Automatically

Thanks to Sky_Dynasty for the tip!

1. Download MSI File Install Fixer.zip from Win2008Workstation.

2. Read the ReadMe.txt inside the archive.

3. (Hopefully) install the game or application!

You seem to have some links that need to be fixed. I mean lots of links that have the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

So what if I have a file which is an exe for a game that claims it isn’t compatible? :/

  3. Does anyone know if there is another language or set of commands beside SQL for talking with databases?

I’m working on a project and am doing some research thanks

Long time Server2k3/xp64 user, first time really giving anything vista[ish] a chance. Seems that it is working just fine here and am quite happy I googled ‘server 2008 gaming’.

I have had xp64 since RC and have been loving it, but maybe 2k8 will win me over yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    you guys kick ass!!!!!
one question though… can you delete the new folder you created after the install??? actually 2 questions…. will this work with other conflicting software???

Arris: 1. Yes, you can delete that folder afterward. / 2. If the installation uses .msi files to install and the install gives some error about an incompatible operating system, you can use this method to circumvent the check. However, keep in mind that the developers maybe didn’t add the check for nothing so you might have problems when trying to run the application/game, but in most of the cases it will just work fine! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Great Job was going nutz trying to get a dedicated server running in WinServ2008!

Arris: I think it’s a little bit stupid of EPIC to not support Windows Server 2008 as many dedicated servers are running 2k8.

Will not work with O&O Defrag 11 Prof. – Install okay, error with Registration ๐Ÿ™

  9. Zwetschger says:

I need it for exe files – please help me

Arris: Place your question at the forum including the name of the application you want to install. Quite often it is possible to fool these installers too.

  10. pipo says:

on the LaunchCondition leave it in this way
(Not Version9X) And (Not VersionNT=400) And (Not VersionNT=500) And (VersionNT=600 And Not (MsiNTProductType=1))

if you see I have removed the “not” and the “(” for VersionNT=600

It worked for me because I get the error saying UT3 cannot load the LaunchConditionTable from the SQL- database. when dropping the row

Arris: Thanks for your comment. I haven’t run into this problem before, but if some application is complaining that it can’t load the LaunchCondition Table you can also just replace all conditions to 1=1 which of course always evaluates to true! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Un grand merci !!!! superbe astuce !!!

  14. Gideon7 says:

It means the SQL table got mangled or deleted somehow. Should never happen. The fact that both Orca and VBS are failing indicates something is broken in MSI itself at a low level on your computer. MSI.DLL may be busted. Try re-installing the MSI installer.

always getting an error saying UT3 cannot load the LaunchConditionTable from the SQL- database.
tried patching automatically and manually, no difference…
    any ideas?

One thing about UT and UT games is if it is installed on a system and running you can just copy the installed directory to your new PC. Run the EXE and it will ask for the CD key and you can play.

Alternatively, you can remove the launch conditions by using a .vbs script which you can download from here http://www.mediafire.com/?cvjdxncmdjb

(VB script discovery thanks to “Revere” from SRN)
