I haven’t installed Windows Server 2012 nor Windows 8 yet on a physical PC so haven’t been able to write a page about installing drivers. For now you can however use the instructions from the previous versions of Windows Server to install the missing drivers.

Anyone get nvidia drivers for a geforce gtx 480 working? My screen goes black and I have to reboot and restore to last known configuration. Tried 2012 and 2012 r2. I think I had it working before I reformatted 2012, but I’m not sure. I tried older drivers, etc.
If WS2012 fails to find drivers for a device, but you know that Windows 8 has (or can automatically find) drivers for it, try the following:
1. Install Windows 8 on a spare drive.
2. Find and install all the necessary drivers.
3. Use a utility like Double Driver ( http://www.boozet.org/dd.htm ) to create a backup of the drivers on Windows 8. Save the driver files to a USB drive or otherwise make them available to your WS2012 installation.
4. Under WS2012, first try using Double Driver to restore the driver backup.
5. If the restore feature fails, try installing the drivers from Device Manager. You might have to tweak the .inf file(s) to remove any Windows version restrictions (which then also necessitates disabling driver signature checking; see previous comments for instructions).
The above worked for me on an HP EliteBook 6930p with Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics – instead of inf-modded Windows 7 drivers, I finally managed to install the official Intel WDDM 1.1 drivers for Windows 8 (version 8.15.10.2702, dated 11.03.2013).

I would like to help people that got the same problem as I had.
I have a Nvidia based Motherboard. I tried installing Realtek Codecs and Drivers and also Nvidia Drivers but it still did not work.
After trying a lot I did the winserver 2008 R2 driver section process.
So I installed Everest.
Found out that my audio card was a VT1705.
Went to Via VT website and download the drivers for Windows 8 64 bits.
It finally is working!
And I am having a great desktop experience, with the themes and everything working just like I think it would on Windows 8.

A couple of tips for getting drivers:
1. Try the Microsoft Update Catalog (http://catalog.update.microsoft.com). Just search for the name of your device, which you can find by binging/googling its hardware ID (as shown in Device Manager). Before downloading a driver, verify that it’s for your device – click on the driver title, in the new window go to the “Package Details” tab, check the list of supported hardware IDs and make sure your device’s ID is listed.
2. If you have a Windows 8 install disk at hand (as of the writing of this, the 8.1 Preview ISO is freely available from Microsoft), you can try the drivers included on it:
a) Extract the install.wim file, then mount it with the following command (in an elevated command prompt):
dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:C:Pathtoinstall.wim /index:1 /MountDir:D:install
Change “C:Pathtoinstall.wim” to the location where install.wim is located, and “D:install” to the location of an empty folder which you need to create for this purpose.
b) If you’re doing this on another computer, go to the folder where you mounted the .wim file and copy the Windowssystem32DriverStore folder over to your WS2012 machine.
c) In Device Manager, right-click on your device, choose “Update Driver Software…” and point the wizard at the DriverStore folder. If you’re lucky, it’ll find and install the drivers.
d) To unmount the .wim file, enter the following command (again in an elevated command prompt):
dism /Unmount-Wim /MountDir:D:install /discard
Again change “D:install” to the new folder you created.

I have my Oculus Rift working on 2012 R2 now, but I had trouble with the Xbox One Controller / Wireless Adapter drivers.
The drivers come via windows update on desktop OS versions, but not server. The Microsoft Update Catalog mentioned above was the solution. Just search for and download the wireless adapter and controller 7/8.1 drivers (non-DFU), unzip/unpack the .cab files, and then manually install the drivers via device manager. Just make sure you get the right architecture (need to view driver details). You really only need the wireless, but you might want the controller drivers if you connect via micro-usb.
How do I in Windows server 2012 using Bluetooth equipment? My notebook as Centrino platform, unable to install Intel PROset official Bluetooth driver. How to solve this problem?

I’ve experienced severe lags in Word 2013 with Server 2012.
Turn off hardware acceleration in Office makes it better.

Yep, I’ve experienced the same thing on two different PCs. One, a Lenovo T400 laptop with ATI HD 3400 discrete graphics, and the other a nearly two year old PC but with a 3 1/2 year old ATI HD 4850. I’m using the legacy 12.6 version AMD released officially for Windows 8 for pre-5xxx products. The driver works fine on both PCs under Windows 8, but on Windows Server 2012, after using the latest workstation converter, installing/enabling the old .NET 3.5 (includes 2.0+), even installing the last DirectX 9 update, and all Microsoft Updates.
In the case of the Lenovo T400 with HD 3400, Catalyst Control Center comes up with that same error as yours: “… does not work together with the current version of my driver.” On the HD 4850, exact same thing as yours, Vision Control Center instead of Catalyst Control Center.
Tried installing drivers as admin, installing in compatibility mode for Windows 7… no luck yet.
I can uninstall just the control center, but of course I’d rather get it working the way it does under Windows 8.

I installed Catalyst Control Center

Work kinda OK, but have little thing here and there happening:
– pop-up once a while complaining that it is not compatible,
– Gmail on Chrome have display issues here and there: toolbars go black; if I reply a mail, the all page goes black sometime…
– Sometime refresh/opening app look painful, display have black section and lagging

Aida64, the succesor of Everest, has a free trial that allows you to get the drivers. It helped with my video card. Check the Extreme Edition.

I’ve installed the catalyst 12.8 software suite for windows 8 x64 on my windows server 2012. The driver works fine, but the Vision control center doesn’t. After windows has booted I get the message that the vision control center does not work together with the current version of my driver. When I close the message box my windows works normally. Games seem to work as in Windows 7. The only problem is that I cannot configure my driver settings. If anybody knew a solution for this problem his or her help would be appreciated .

Hello Heinz. I was having this exact same problem and figured it out after hours of scouring through Google searches.

Although this is for Windows 2008, it works for 2012 as well. Make the suggested registry changes and it will work. Hope that helps.
Figured it out – the problem was driver signature enforcement. For some reason these 2 commands which work on Win8RP
bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
were not enough to disable driver signatures on Win2012. The commands seem to be working in some form as a ‘Test Mode’ appears on the desktop with these 2 options ON, and dissappear when switched off.
Anyway it’s pretty straight-forward, you just need to press F8 while booting into Win2012, select disable driver signature enforcement, and install the modified drivers. Tried Angry Birds (which requires acceleration) with a touch screen. Works perfectly! 🙂

I’m trying to install graphic drivers for Intel HD Graphics on a 1st Gen core-i3 (laptop). Though Intel has termed this as “legacy”, and are not releasing accelerated drivers for Windows 8 and Win2012, there is a workaround for Win8 documented here

This works fine in Win 8 (I’ve tried it) but the same hack does not work for Win2012. Any ideas?

I managed to get Intel HD 4000 graphics drivers installed. It’s actually really simply; just download the .zip version rather than the .exe version and it will install without any objection. The .exe version, on the other hand, will tell you it’s not compatible.
